3 Snow Day Crafts for Kids

by Lynn Lilly, Jan 15 2024

Temperatures are dropping and snow flurries just might be falling in your neighborhood. It is not so hotlanta right now in the ATL. The cold days of winter are here and as a mom the struggle is real to keep my kiddo busy. With a new baby in the house and it being too cold to get outside Lily definitely needs easy crafts to keep her entertained. The Crayola CIY Book has been a huge hit in our house and I am so excited to be kicking off my first live broadcast of the year on the Crayola Facebook Page sharing 2 of the winter crafts from the book and I picked a fun craft from crayola.com to round out our snow day crafts!

You can find out where to purchase the new book here: https://crayo.la/CIYBook

The Crayola Create It Yourself book is packed with 52 year-round crafts organized by season! The tutorials are detailed and great for parents and kids to follow along! It will bring year round entertainment!

Project 1: Snowman Ruler
Snowman Ruler
This project has it's very own video on the Crayola website.
Materials:
  • Crayola Acrylic Paint (white, black, orange)
  • Paint Brush
  • Pencil
  • Wood Spoon
  • Ribbon
  • Ruler

Once you paint the spoon white you can either paint on the ruler marks and snowman face or you could use the Crayola Take Note Permanent Markers.

If you live in a place with lots of snow and your snowman ruler would get lost in the snow you can make an extender with a craft stick.

Directions for adding the extender:

  1. If your spoon does not already have a hole at the end, parents you can drill a hole wide enough to fit a brad.
  2. Paint the craft stick with white acrylic paint.
  3. To attach the craft stick to the spoon you will need a brad. Either drill a hole in the craft stick that will line up with the hole in the spoon handle or feed the brad through the spoon hole and pull out the prongs and glue the prongs to the craft stick.
  4. Add ruler marks to the craft stick.
  5. Fold up when not in use.
