3 Crafts for the Bookworm Kids

by Lynn Lilly, Dec 27 2020

Do your kiddos love to read? My daughter loves books and I hope she never loses that love. This week I am sharing 3 fun bookworm crafts on my weekly broadcast on the Crayola Facebook Page! Make sure to tune in every Tuesday at 1:00pm EST for 3 new crafts!

Shop all the supplies I am using for today's projects at Crayola.com

Project 1: Bookmarks

These fun construction paper bookmarks can be made into crayons or pencils and are perfect for saving a page!

Crayola Crayon Bookmarks

Materials:

  • Crayola Construction Paper
  • Crayola Glue
  • Crayola Markers
  • Scissors
  • Pencil

Directions:

  1. Cut a 8-10" x 2" strip of construction paper.
  2. Fold the strip in half.
  3. Cut the ends of the strip into a point. Leave it as a point if you want it to be a pencil or cut the tip-off to look like a crayon.
  4. Cut black wavey strips to the width of the pencil and glue to both ends.
  5. Write your name with markers on the bookmark.

Project 2: Book Covers

My daughter loves books but sometimes she is a little hard on them. Create easy book covers for storybooks and school books!

Crayola Book Cover

Materials:

  • Crayola Giant Construction Paper Pad
  • Crayola Glue
  • Crayola Markers, Glitter Glue, etc for Decorating
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Wrap the book cover with construction paper. Fold the top and side edges to slightly larger than the book. Glue the folds down and wrap the book around the edges.
  2. Decorate the cover. Have fun with glitter glue, cut out shapes or create a pocket to hold your bookmark.

Project 3: Cereal Box Book Holder

Instead of throwing away the cereal boxes, turn them into book holders.

Cereal Box Book Holder

Materials:

  • Cereal Box
  • Crayola Construction Paper
  • Crayola Glue
  • Glitter Glue, Markers, Crayons to Decorate
  • Scissors

Directions:

  1. Cut the top corner out of the cereal box at a slant.
  2. Wrap the box with construction paper and glue into place.
  3. You can use glitter glue or cut out shapes and decorate the book holder.
  4. You can also turn your box into a piñata by gluing strips of construction paper fringe around the box.

This is a fun folder to store homework assignments or even art drawings!
