Chevron Brownies

by Aimee Broussard, Nov 25 2017
I feel like chevron is getting a bad rap these days.

Once the go-to fabric trend now has the masses going chevron coo-coo.

You see it everywhere, from furniture poofs to kitchen decor, to children's clothing and women's scarves.

My friends, I think that's where it started going south for me......the wearing of the chevron. Like stripes, it just doesn't work for everyone yet there it is, all over town, women, children and babies flaunting the chevron. And heaven forbid, mixing and matching the chevron.

I propose a new trend: the eating of the chevron.

That's right, I said let's use the design and let's eat it.

Like I did with these Chevron Caramel Brownies.

Simply start by making your favorite brownie recipe and alllow to cool.

Next, whip up a super simple homemade caramel topping. I use this one:
  • 1 cup packed cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup half-and-half
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Mix the brown sugar, half-and-half, butter and salt in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Cook while whisking gently for 5 to 7 minutes, until it gets thicker. Add the vanilla and cook another minute to thicken further. Turn off the heat, cool slightly then pour sauce over the brownies (still in the brownie pan).

Once completely cool, cut into squares. Now, cut your pretzel sticks in half and begin forming the chevron pattern.

Voila. You now have stylish sweet & salty brownies! Go right ahead and call yourself a trend setter.
