Guest Room Welcome Sign

by Anna Teal, Nov 07 2016

I can’t believe the holidays are right around the corner! If you’re like me, you are planning parties, getting ready for guests, shopping, and trying to stay sane!  One way to impress your guests this season is to create something special to make them feel at home. This custom guest room sign is easy and so much fun to make! Even a beginner can do it :-)

What You’ll Need:

  • Wooden frame
  • FolkArt Home Decor Chalk in English Lavender
  • Small FolkArt Home Decor Chalk Brush
  • Raw Twine
  • Small Wooden Clips
  • Small Cardboard cutouts
  • Optional: Twinkle Lights

Step 1: When painting on a wood surface, you’ll want to give it a good sanding so the paint adheres smoothly.

Step 2: Apply FolkArt Chalk to frame. I covered the entire frame (front and back) and painted with the grain of the wood. Let dry for at least 2 hours.

TIP: I chose not to distress my frame but if you like that look, now is the time to sand to get that rustic feel that you desire.

Step 3: While your frame is drying, you can work on your little note cards that will hang within your frame.  I chose to use a gold paint pen to write “Welcome to our Home,” our wifi password, and “Breakfast @ 8AM” on my three small cards.

TIP: Write whatever you you think will be important for your guest. Feel free to change up your style. Write a note in cursive and then other one in all caps and then another one with a mix to make it more interesting and fun.

Step 4: Once your frame is completely dry, attach one end of the twine to the top corner on the back of the frame with tape. Then string the twine back and forth however many times you’d like to create rows to hang your cards.

Step 5: If you’d like to add twinkle lights (I mean, who doesn’t like twinkle lights?), you can add them once the twine is in place.  I used my wooden clips to keep the twine and wire together.  Super easy!

Step 6: Clip your little notes in place, light it up and you’re ready to go!

You’ve created something so simple and easy that your guest will love! Feel free to play around and see what works for you and your decor :-) You can sub out twine for holiday ribbon or embellish your cards to fit your style!

Happy Holidays Ya'll!
